Thanks to the "Giner de los Ríos" fellowship, I can work on my Reading Mickey Project at the ancient university city of Alcalá de Henares, east of Madrid. I'll be doing archival research for my postdoctoral project "Reading Mickey" and preparing my ACLA talk "Distant and Close Reading Mickey Magazines of 1935".
The city is the birthplace of Miguel de Cervantes and the home of many, many storks. It boasts a seventeenth-century theatre, older than the Globe, called Corral de Comedias.

Research Stay at the International Youth Library in Munich (23 July - 15 September 2023). The library is located in the wonderful Blutenburg Castle to the west of Munich, the library hosts an enormous collection of books, including magnificent pop up books, and has the best librarian on the planet, Nadine Zimmerman (picture above, right).
